Folder Inserter Buying Guide

folder-inserter-si62.5specs.jpgHow a Folder Inserter works

Feeders are loaded with stacks of paper documents (e.g. statements), inserts (e.g. reply envelopes), and envelopes
Sheets and inserts are automatically fed into the system and are collated (collected together, arranged one on top of the other)
The sheets are folded using a fold type that’s compatible with the envelope size. (e.g Half Fold with C5+,  Z or 3 Fold With DL+ Envelope)
In the meantime, an empty envelope is fed into the system and transported to the inserting area with the flap open
The materials are inserted into the waiting envelope, The Filled envelope moves on to the sealing sealing area and sealed (if programmed)
Filled carrier envelopes leave the machine by catch tray, side exit or stacker.

Monthly Volume: This is the maximum number of filled envelopes that the folder inserter has been designed to produce in a month. The mailing machines are not limited to this volume but if you expect to do more, it might be prudent to look at a folder inserter with a higher monthly rating. If your application has up/down volume, for example a quarterly newsletter, we would suggest calculating an average monthly volume to work from.

Speed: This is the number of sealed envelopes the folder inserter will produce in an hour. This figure is based on the industry standard of 1x A4 piece of paper, letter folded into a DL envelope.

Fold Sizes: The fold type required for particular mailing job can be determined by the customer’s preference, paper size, envelope type, address location on the document or a combination of these. Letter-size documents (A4) are typically folded in ‘C’ or ‘Z’ tri-fold format and inserted into a DL envelope. Letters may also be single-folded (folded in half) for insertion into a C5 envelope. A no-fold setting would be used when inserting flyers, Leaflets, Cards, Small booklets

Envelopes Sizes: All folder inserters that we sell handle both DL and C5 sized envelopes. Please be advised that all mailing machines require MACHINE ENVELOPES. You cannot use your peel and seal envelopes in these machines. Price wise, machine envelopes often save customers money, as they are basic in design and use less material compared to peel and seal envelopes. The folder inserter takes care of wetting and sealing the envelope.

Envelope Feeder Capacity: This refers to how many machine envelopes the envelope feeder will accept.

Paper Feeder Capacity: This refers to how many sheets of A4 70gsm paper the A4 feeders will accept.

Feeder Configuration: Folder inserters use 3 types or paper feeder: A4 feeder A4 feeder that can also work as an insert feeder Insert feeder which can insert material that's C5 or smaller and doesn't need folding e.g. return envelopes, reply cards etc.

OMR and Bar Code Reading:(optional)  ‘Reading’ refers to marks or codes printed onto documents that convey mailpiece assembly instructions to the folder-inserter when scanned. In simple terms, the codes tell the folder-inserter which pages and inserts belong together in the same envelope. This allows variable-page/variable- insert jobs to be automated with virtually-perfect integrity (e.g. Customer A’s statement is 2 pages in length, Customer B’s statement is 4 pages, Customers C is 3 pages and so on).

Display: This refers to how the mailing machine shows visual information and accepts commands from the operator. Most modern mailing machines use LCD displays with button commands. Top-end folder inserters have touch screens.

Presets: Regular jobs can easily be preset on your folder inserter to save time when changing applications. Presets are easy to assign, although your first presets will be set up by the installing engineer when your machine is installed.

Reload Whilst Running: A useful feature on most modern folder inserters, this simply means that the paper and envelope feeder can be reloaded whilst the envelope stuffer is in operation, thus reducing downtime.

Refurbished Stock

We offer an extensive range of folder inserters. Ex-lease and used, fully refurbished. We have machines to meet all budgets.

Fold Only Option: This refers to the ability of the folder inserter to fold the paper without inserting into envelopes. This is very useful for flyers etc. If you find you are producing a lot of fold-only jobs, it's prudent to purchase a paper folding machine as these are much cheaper to purchase and maintain than folder inserters. This will help reduce wear and tear on your valuable folder inserter.
